Barratt and David Wilson Homes North East are building on the former St George鈥檚 Hospital site that closed in 2006.

The development will consist of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes. The Barratt Homes will be named Laurel Chase at Cottingwood and the David Wilson Homes will become The Paddocks at Cottingwood.

One in five of the private properties will be built to M4(2) standards, which offers homeowners a more accessible and adaptable way of living, including wider doorways and hallways, step-free access and adaptable bathrooms.

This scheme relates to phase one of a larger site that has outline planning permission, secured by Homes England for, up to 875 houses, local centre, restaurant/public house and associated open space.

Work is now under way for the development, with show homes expected to be available to view from summer 2025, and the new homes on sale from September this year.
